PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Global Accounting Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across all international operations with special focus on financial instruments. The Global Accounting Specialist is involved in the analysis of accounting questions from the local finance teams as well as the review of local reporting’s, and acts as liaison between the accounting and treasury teams. A key area of focus for this position is the appropriate accounting and disclosure of financial instruments (following IFRS 7 and 9). This role involves managing cross-border accounting activities, coordinating with regional finance teams, and ensuring compliance with global accounting standards (like IFRS). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and is experienced in international accounting and financial regulations, with a focus on accounting for financial instruments. The role could be based in Basel, Madrid, Amsterdam or Milan.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and oversees accounting operations for multiple international entities
- Ensures timely month-end and year-end close processes across global subsidiaries
- Supports the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- Acts as a subject-matter expert in the area of accounting and reporting of financial instruments, liaise with the Global Treasury team, and oversee accurate recognition across entities
- Collaborates with local finance teams and external auditors in different regions
- Maintains compliance with internal controls
- Monitors and implement changes in international accounting standards
- Participates in system implementations and process improvements related to global accounting
- Provides financial insights and analysis to support decision-making
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred)
- 3–5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably with international exposure
- Solid knowledge of IFRS, and international accounting practices, with experience in financial instruments accounting
- Experience with ERP and consolidation systems (preferred SAP Group Reporting / Central Finance)
- Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Fluency in English required; additional languages a plus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment
- Experience working in a multinational corporation or shared services environment would be ideal
- Exposure to SOX compliance or similar internal control frameworks would be ideal
