PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Senior Technical Product Manager will drive product strategy and execution for selected areas within Avolta's Commercial Optimization function, including pricing, assortment, promotions and inventory optimization. Working closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, BI engineers and technology teams, this role will translate business needs into scalable product solutions that improve commercial performance. The role combines strong technical understanding, product management discipline and stakeholder engagement to deliver measurable business impact. Success depends on strong execution, analytical thinking and the ability to align multiple stakeholders toward common objectives.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Strategy and Roadmap

  • Owns the product roadmap for assigned commercial domains and contribute to the broader portfolio strategy
  • Translates business objectives and regional requirements into prioritized product initiatives with clear success metrics and expected value
  • Communicates product priorities, roadmap progress and outcomes to commercial and technical stakeholders
  • Monitors market developments, competitor practices and relevant retail technology trends to identify improvement opportunities 
  • Supports build-versus-buy evaluations by assessing business needs, technical feasibility, time to value and cost implications

Cross-Functional Execution & Delivery 

  • Drives end-to-end delivery of assigned product initiatives, from discovery and requirements through deployment, adoption and performance monitoring
  • Coordinates implementation, with scope defined according to product maturity and business priorities
  • Facilitates delivery routines including planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives and stakeholder checkpoints 
  • Identifies and manage risks, dependencies, decisions and delivery trade-offs, escalating material issues when required
  • Manage stakeholders across different domains including commercial, finance, operations, legal and PR
  • Provides regular updates on roadmap progress, product performance, delivery risks and upcoming decisions

Product & Programme Management 

  • Maintains clear delivery plans, milestones, ownership and governance for assigned workstreams
  • Ensures business requirements, technical delivery and change-management activities remain connected throughout the product lifecycle
  • Supports rollout readiness, user adoption and transition into business-as-usual operating routines
  • Tracks against agreed KPIs and coordinate corrective actions when benefits, timelines or adoption are off plan
  • Contributes to portfolio-level reporting and planning by providing accurate status, resource needs and dependency visibility

Hands-On Product Development 

  • Develop detailed business requirements documents, user stories and acceptance criteria for commercial optimization features
  • Creates wireframes, process flows and prototypes to validate concepts before engineering investment
  • Use SQL and Excel, and where relevant Python, to answer business questions, validate hypotheses and assess product performance
  • Conducts user research, process walkthroughs and usability testing with commercial teams
  • Collaborated with data scientists and engineers on solution design, architecture discussions, implementation feasibility and delivery planning
  • Ensured delivered solutions meet agreed standards for usability, reliability, scalability and business value

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

Experience & Track Record 

  • 6-8+ years of product management, programme management or related delivery experience, including substantial exposure to technical or data-driven products
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with engineering, analytics, BI or data science teams
  • Track record of delivering products or programmes that generated measurable business outcomes such as revenue growth, margin improvement, cost savings or operational efficiency
  • Experience managing cross-functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders, dependencies and competing priorities
  • Ability to operate independently within a defined scope, make sound delivery trade-offs and escalate decisions appropriately

Technical Depth 

  • Strong understanding of data architectures, analytics products, machine-learning systems and modern technology stacks, including cloud data warehouses, ETL pipelines and BI tools
  • Ability to understand technical designs and engage constructively with engineering and data teams on implementation, performance and scalability
  • Comfortable exploring and validating data using SQL and Excel; Python capability is advantageous
  • Experience supporting data products from pilot or prototype into stable production environments

Domain Knowledge & Business Acumen 

  • Strong understanding of commercial optimization concepts, including pricing, demand elasticity, assortment planning, promotional effectiveness and inventory optimization
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, travel, hospitality or marketplace businesses is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, econometric methods or causal inference is advantageous
  • Good financial acumen, including understanding of P&L drivers, ROI analysis and business trade-offs

Leadership & Communication 

  • Strong stakeholder-management skills and the ability to influence without direct authority across functions and geographies
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English; additional European languages are advantageous
  • Ability to build trust with both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and creating clarity on priorities, ownership and next steps
  • Comfortable presenting recommendations, progress and decisions to Director and Senior Director-level audiences, with occasional exposure to executive stakeholders

Execution Excellence 

  • Strong bias for action, with the ability to move from ambiguity to a practical delivery plan
  • High standards for quality, ensuring products are robust, usable and connected to measurable business value
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with several concurrent priorities
  • Strong planning and project-management discipline, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Structured approach to decision tracking, dependency management, governance and follow-through

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience building or scaling ML/AI-powered products, such as recommendation systems, optimization engines or forecasting tools
  • Direct experience with pricing, revenue-management, merchandising, assortment or inventory-optimization solutions
  • Experience in a global, multi-brand or multi-region organization. 
  • Experience in a technology company, high-growth environment or digitally enabled transformation programme
  • Relevant degree in business, engineering, computer science, economics, analytics or a related discipline
  • Fluency in English; another language is preferred
