PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Network Engineer reports directly to the Director of IT Infrastructure and is part of the regional IT organisation based at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The Regional IT team works closely with global infrastructure and support teams to manage and support the rapidly growing business across the region. Operating within multidisciplinary teams provides extensive opportunities to develop both deep technical expertise and broader cross-functional knowledge across adjacent IT domains.
RESPONSIBILTIES
Manage, support and operate network service delivery globally including (SD)WAN, MAN, LAN networks, switching, routing, wireless and their related security features (SASE) including basic firewalling and access control lists.
- Manage and operate network services related tickets, incidents, and requests.
- Manage and operate oversight over (co-)sourced network services.
- IP address management.
- Network asset management and life cycle management.
- Maintain and automate network documentation used by whole IT community.
- Participate in network design sessions and innovations under architecture.
- Maintain and develop network standards, network building blocks and network deployment automation to facilitate project deliveries.
- Representing the network function is various local and abroad IT projects including negotiating with airport network service providers.
- Develop and manage effective professional working relationships with external contractors, personnel, co-workers and suppliers (e.g. airport network teams).
- Ensure business (network) continuity of the 24 x 7 systems and company processes and demonstrate availability through tooling and reporting.
- Adhere to and implement (security) policies as per corporate manuals and directives.
- Create/maintain knowledge articles, instruction, manuals and problem resolution steps and ensure to support delegation of control and share knowledge.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and actively support controlled self-reliance of the various teams in the network domain.
- Proactively, identifying opportunities to improve systems or processes and flag recurring issues.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- IT Higher Technical Education (bachelor degree or bachelor level).
- Cisco CCNP or similar active certification.
- In-depth Knowledge and minimum 5 year working experience in Routing, switching and CISCO ASA Firewalls.
- In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio).
- Strong functionality and analytical skills. Capably to analyze and troubleshoot complex network problems and requests.
- Proactive, open-minded, self-directing behavior. Taking ownership and responsibility for network services.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English, Dutch in addition is a pre.
- Team Membership skills / Team player. Intrinsic motivated to share knowledge with co-workers.
- Flexible, open and proactive mindset combined with high level of responsibility awareness.
- Prepared to occasionally work during weekend evenings (no 9-5 mentality).
- Due diligence and due care mentality.
Demonstratable knowledge and experience in:
- Network switching and routing design, configuration, troubleshooting skills, preferably Cisco based.
- Managing enterprise scale networks.
- Network traffic analyses
Experience that are a pre include:
- Working in IT (network) environments controlled by 3rd parties (landlords) in airport-, train- and shopping mall environments.
- Working with outsourcing partners and directing outsourcing partners.
- Negotiating with suppliers including financials and terms and conditions is a pre.
- Knowledge and experience of PCI-DSS, ISO27001/2 or NIST-CSF related frameworks is a pre.
- Knowledge and experience of WAN optimization, SDWAN and SASE techniques.
- Knowledge and experience in secure network transport techniques (IPSEC, PKI, TLS).
- Knowledge and experience in network patch management and network vulnerability management.
